Today we read a story called "Those Darn Squirrels" and students are beginning to explore the design thinking process beginning with a problem and how it effects others. The character in the story was sad because he put bird feeders out so he could paint pictures of the birds that visit them. Instead, squirrels came and stole all the bird seed. After gathering some information about squirrels, birds and bird feeders, students brainstormed 2 ideas to solve his problem.
Eric Carle illustrations were the inspiration for our paint texture project. We explored mixing primary colours and adding texture by using objects like toothpicks, feathers, forks and sponges. Students will cut their paper into shapes to create a picture of an animal.
